We had a wonderful time on Sunday pampering daddy, stuffing him with all his favorite eats, and making him a comfy pillow to relax with. The boys drew on some fabric with Pentel Fabricfun Pastel Dye Sticks and I whipped it up into a pillow.

Picture 1 : Our home, reads “You are the best dad!”
Picture 2 : Daddy blowing away the racing competition with family cheering on the side-lines.
Reads: “You are the first Place Dad”.
(Daddy used to be a rally car racer)
We tried to escape the heat and drove up the mountain, but I think we went too late in the day, because it was still pretty warm. We still had a great hike and a yummy lunch in the pines.
On our way down the mountain we saw the most amazing site. A halo around the sun and a rainbow in the sky~ not your usual arched rainbow. We had never seen anything like it before.
I snapped away with my camera and when we got home we googled ‘rainbow cloud’. We think what we saw was a sun dog (sun halo) and rainbow cloud (parhelion) which are refractions of sunlight by small ice crystals in the sky. They are very rare and very cool.
Know anything else about these? Please, fill me in, I’d love to learn more. I have more pictures of this fabulous sight, you can see them HERE.

After I saw these on flickr, I called my dad about it. He once was a weatherman in the air force and said he had never heard of this. Totally beautiful! WHat a cool thing to catch!

My hubby works with the weather guys at the local TV station and they tell him these are sun dogs -caused by high elevation ice crystals. I love them.

Very cool pictures. I really love that pillow, very special for a dad. And is that a car in flames right behind his? The one with “help, help” coming out of it? Lol.

We have sun dogs here in the upper midwest - but usually only in the winter time. I’ve never seen them in the summer. Your father’s day pillow is so sweet.
