Lotta Inspiration

I bought Lotta Prints recently and am in love with her simplistic designs. The book is aesthetically pleasing, page after page, with loads of great ideas and stencil patterns.

After thumbing through this book I was inspired to make another wrap skirt. This one is a simple organic cotton with a sponge stencil. I had wanted to do this with a potato, but not a single spud could I find. So a cut sponge was used instead. I had sketched this skirt out at work the other day, so I am happy to finally make it real.

I used Tulip Soft Fabric Paint.  It worked out well and I really like the texture the sponge gave.

Oh yeah, I used my new serger to enforce the seams on this skirt too!  Now talk about power. I’ve been zippin’ though scraps of fabric like crazy.  I still have a lot of learning to do, but I love it!  I just hope the spools of thread magically last forever.

I am dying for a serger… ohh, I am so green… the skirt is so cute you may inspire me to start printing.. our walmart is losing their fabric so I just spent a ton on prints.

I love your skirt – I would totally buy that. How easy is it to make the stamps in the Lotta book, would you say? Can I do it with my teenagers?

Thank you so much for posting this! I also have the Lotta book and wanted to do some skirts. I’ve been trying to find some cheap skirts to test on, but they’re all a bit pricey. Your idea of doing the wrap skirt is brilliant! Fast and easy. Could you tell me if you lined this twill skirt? I saw that you used a brown cotton lining on your other wrap skirt. Just curious if you lined this one too. Thanks again!
