Try soaking the sheets in a bucket of cool water with a cup of baking soda for a day or two, then wash as usual with a liquid detergent specially formulated for soiled clothing.

Oh how I wish I could find the sheet in the lower right corner of your picture - the pink and yellow flower. That exact sheet set was on my bed as a child; we had a blue colorway, too. When my mom had breast cancer I was 6, and I remember hanging that sheet on our clothesline to dry each and every week. Those were wonderful memories.

Thanks for the memory. If you ever see another one on Etsy for example, give a shout!

PS - I love your blog!

Pretty! I understand spraying anything with Vodka get rid of the smell and doesn't not stain since vokda is clear. Haven't tried it yet but I read it in a magazine.

Wow, incredible finds. I can't believe you found that many sheets at one time. That top right one is especially nice. For smell i always use vinegar and water or if it's really bad (like age smell) i will soak in oxyclean for a whole day and then wash in vinegar and water. I've done this with feedsacks and other vintage finds. Doesn't always work but most of the time it does. Happy creating with all that goodness!

I have the daisy one too! I have luck just with regular detergent, but I've heard vinegar can help with the musty smell.

I adore the cups and soap dispenser; I found similar Japanese mugs at our Goodwill that have umbrellas on them. For a while I thought about what art projects I could do that would be inspired by them, but so far, I haven't come up with anything. As for the odor in thrift shop fabrics, I still haven't found the cure. A few years ago I bought a great denim dress that still smells a bit like moth balls. I'm excited to try some of the suggestions mentioned here though.
