My Gran used to make 'French Knickers' and 'Cami Knickers' for the ladies of the family. I remember overhearing a conversation between my Aunty Margaret and my Gran when I was quite small - it was many years later that I understood the significance. Aunty Margaret to Gran 'If our Alice wants to wear French knickers she should learn to sit like a lady!'
