I was a little distracted by the birds outside today which led me to wanting to make a bird feeder. I had some twine, and a small glass bowl with a flanged lip from the thrift store ($.50) .
I decided to crochet a loop around the sides, first making a chain that fit the circumference of the bowl, connecting the chain into a loop, then double crochet all around and finally adding an edge with a ch4, sk1, sc1 repeated all around. (Does this make any sense? Any crochet people want to help me out here?) Then I made a long chain and attached to opposite sides for hanging.
To ensure that the bowl won’t fall out (it’s pretty snug, but just in case), I put a strip of double stick tape for additional gripping power.
Now, I’ve found that I need different seeds to discourage pigeons. Black-oil sunflower seeds in a shell are recommended. Also, the bowl is steady enough for small birds but unsteady with the bigger birds, which is also reccomended. We have a bird bath and those pigeons are like teenagers at a playgound. Just too big to be there.
