Artfest day3 :: Mary Beth Shaw Workshop

My last workshop was with Mary Beth Shaw.  I’m surprised I made it through this class with the very small amount of sleep I had had at this point. Lucky for me, making art has a way of waking me up and getting my heart pumping.

Mary Beth is really great. She is fun, energetic and enthusiastically happy! Her class was called “Extra Terrestrial Texture“. I learned so much about abstracts and limited palette painting, two things I usually avoid. But everything she said to do worked great for me.

I had a great time with adding texture (noodles, paper, cardboard and wood icing with stencils).  The first thing I did when I came home was order some wood icing. It came in the mail yesterday and I’ve already incorporated many of these texture techniques into a new painting (you can see a peek of it here).

Here are my finished pieces. I’d like to add a little encaustic wax to “Still” and I want to work more with the first one- I didn’t have time to completely finish it.

A really great time was had.  I still have loads more to share about artfest, so I hope you are not too sick of it yet 😉

hi, I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented on your blog but I’ve been following it via RSS for a long time and wanted to let you know that not only am I not bored of the Artfest posts, I’m loving them and eager for more!
This one in particular grabbed me because I have a passion for texture in paintings. I really love all of the pieces you’ve shown and my favourite is the far right (come home).
