The Sweet Book of Candy Making *Book Giveaway*

I received a beautiful book from Quarry books, called The Sweet Book of Candy Making by Elizabeth LaBau.  It is simply mouthwatering flipping from one page to the next.

Sadly, most of the candy involves dairy and as I get older, dairy  bothers  me more and more. My two little guys have some issues too, so good news for you! I’m giving this book away to one lucky winner.

I did try my hand at lollipops. Despite the beautiful step by step photos and very clearly written instructions, I cooked the syrup a little too long (making it yellow) and managed to give myself a lovely little burn blister! They turned out a little wonky in shape and I ended up ditching my lollipop efforts and finished with broken glass. I was too distracted by other stuff and did not give it the focus it needed.

Anyway, I am still happy that I tried and the candy was tasty with peppermint flavoring. We added sprinkles (like seen here) instead of adding food coloring, which I don’t have.

What else is in the book? So much! Sugar candies, fondant, caramels, toffee, fudge, truffles, chocolate candies, marshmallows and fruit and nut candies. There are lost of pictures and tips.

Now, I know I’m a little late with this giveaway, as Christmas quickly approaches. But there is always Valentine’s Day and birthdays and well, you don’t really need a reason to make sweeties, now do you?

Leave a comment by December 24th at midnight and I’ll pick a winner Christmas Day! Good Luck!!!

Wow!! I could use this book right now! I am hoping to make some chocolate truffles for my family for Christmas. We’ll see how it goes. Great give away!!

  2. I LOVE your sprinkle lollipops! I gave myself a blister too this year melting sugar to use as glue for our gingerbread house! I am also sensitive to dairy but I would love this book and try my hand at making some dairy free versions and some “healthier” homemade candy for my daughter :o) Merry Christmas! Hugs, Laurraine

nice reference book. I wasn’t going to enter because… who’s going to end up eating it?!! ME! But then I thought, it would be impressive to bring to a party or a gathering. Any excuse!
Cheers to you! Thanks for sharing.

Yum, yum! I’m going to try my hand at making caramels with the girls this year, too. Probably not in time for Christmas, but who says candy making is only for apChristmastime, anyway?

I hope you and your boys (husband included) have a very merry holiday season and I *can’t wait* for 2013!

The sweet teeth in our household (that is to say, all of us) would enjoy the process of making and eating the beautiful treats. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. Happy holidays to you and yours.

I understand your dairy free challenges when it comes to candy as my youngest is allergic to dairy protein. I have found several brands of dark chocolate that are quite yummy (meaning not too bitter,) and have used them for things such as candy bark or even to ice cupcakes. I would love to have a copy of this book for more inspiration. Pick me! Pick me!

Thank you for sharing your artistic journey throughout the year. Wishing you and your family all the best for the holidays.
