Valentine Inspired Mantel

Love

I’m not totally obsessed about Valentine’s, I swear. Just a little extra inspired this year.  I’ve always wanted a little box of Valentine’s decor to pull out every year, but have never had time to do more than little Valentine gifts that I give away.

I am also (always) trying to mask my total dislike for my fireplace/mantel.  When we moved into this house, it was basically a bricked up hole in the wall with no mantel at all. I have hopes to fix it up someday, maybe by framing it out with wood, adding a more substantial mantel and getting rid of that awful brass frame and iron curtain.  I have been collecting ideas on Pinterest, of course.  I  would love to fill it with stacked wood, like this, especially since we very rarely use it to burn wood.  Not totally necessary in the warm southwest.

For now, I just change the decor and am thankful that it provides me with a space that I can change with any creative whim.

Sweet mantel ~ that was one thing I wanted when we moved to Portland ~ didn’t happen. I’ve got a pretty house tho.
Thanks for the inspiration ~ need to start doing a bit of decorating around here!

At this time of year, it’s common to see pink and red decor, which, don’t get me wrong, is lovely in its own right, but I love the colors you added and how fresh it makes it all appear!

What an amazingly cheerful wall! I can almost feel the love you´ve put into it 🙂 I totally love the yellow walls you have. They make such a great background for your art.

  5. Your mantel looks great for Valentines Day! I understand the bit about disliking the mantel. My firepace has this great, wide expanse of very dark brick that goes all the way to the ceiling. And the brickwork isn’t even nicely done or straight! Aagh! It’s on my hit list for sure. (You can get a glimpse of it in this [very old!] post, here: http://www.inkstitch.net/inkstitch/2006/02/christmas_quilt_1/)

p.s. i have unused seen fireplaces full of pillar candles and/or large pieces of artwork or framed photos……and always wondered why people did not try filling with bookshelves (we never have enough room for books….would be the perfect height for kids books too!)
