creosote

Creosote: what makes the desert smell so amazing when it rains.

saguaro

A tall and mighty saguaro.

cactus skeleton

The fascinating insides of a prickly pear cactus.

My Super-E (in green) is 5 ft. tall, but seems so small next to that saguaro.

Trying out our new fire pit. A perfect night for it.

I agree, it’s so different from my neck of the woods here in Southern Ontario, Canada. I love seeing the different geography and cultures in the world inaddition to the inspiring artwork. Thanks for blogging and sharing your (introverted) life.

P.S. It is interesting seeing your kids next to the cactus. Having never seen one in real life, you don’t get a sense of the immense size when looking at most pictures. My DS, now 13 is almost 5’11”, but he would still be dwarfed by one! One of these days we hope to explore your part of the world so that they can see one in real life. When is the best time of year to visit?

Hi Nancy, How wonderful if you were to visit these parts. November and February through May are the best times to visit. That is when the desert is most alive and beautiful and the weather is usually perfect.

My son is twelve, but I feel like he is growing before my very eyes. I feel a big growth spurt happening this next year. So crazy to watch them get so big so fast. 🙂

Hmm, a trip to the Southwest instead of Florida this March Break could be nice for a change… I’ll have to look into it some more.

I know what you mean about growth spurts, sometimes happening literally overnight. One morning he woke up and said he felt taller; when I measured him he had grown almost 3/4″ in 3 weeks! I’ve learned to stock up on his favourite jeans in the next size up when there is a good sale on.
