(print available in my shop)
I took a little detour from the bird ornaments to make some holiday art. This little owl has been popping into my head for a while. I want to paint him again, but without the scarf and maybe with different words or no words at all, not sure.
I used my new Derwent Inktense pencils on the feathers of the owl. They work like watercolor pencils, but become much brighter when water is added. They also become permanent when dry. I know I’ll be having lots of fun with them.
I made two more holiday pieces, but they are not photographed yet. I will share them tomorrow.
Is there a way to purchase prints of this?
Watch out for those Derwent Inktense pencils; they may fade terrible over time. Roz M. Stendahl over at http://rozwoundup.typepad.com has done some excellent tests of Derwent products and found them to not be light-fast over time. Caran D’Arche products are more light-fast in my experience.
But then again, here’s a humorous description of people ignoring Roz’s excellent advice:

Sorry, I don’t know how to make the links active…
Oh wow, how interesting. I have sprayed the piece and will watch to see what happens. They will still be fun to play with in my journal.
I love my Inktense pencils Regina- they are superfun to use. Your owl is awesome – I am crazy about him. Cant wait to see the others. what fun!
So sweet.
Reminded me of the Guardians of Gahoole series I read with my kids.
