playing with alcohol inks

It is summer time which means that the boys are home, constantly looking for something to do and for something to eat. Today they kept busy playing with color.

It all started with THESE videos on how to use alcohol inks. I was curious, since I owned some and never really used them.  While I was watching the videos, the boys came in and ended up watching many of them with me. They were fascinated with the movement of color and patterns made by these inks. It’s almost like a science experiment.

Later that day, they had made a list of all the things we needed to get so that they could play with these inks. Fortunately, I had a lot of the stuff (I am a hoarder or craft supplies) and we made our own felt applicators and felt squares with wood blocks and Velcro.

I gave them a stack of clear sheet protectors, that I cut into smaller pieces, and they played for several hours.  I had them place the clear sheets over white paper so they could see their awesome designs. I love how they turned out! I’m going to have to think of something really fun to make with them.

p.s. Have I ever mentioned that I went to high school with Tim Holtz? He was a year older than me and I really didn’t ever talk to him, but I remember him. It’s pretty crazy seeing his name all over the place.

Nice! My grand daughter and I made Christmas ornaments using the alcohol inks and canned air. Ranger has a video tutorial. I love doing art with kids. They don’t have that internal critic yet.
