Yet another thing to join. I can’t help myself. Inspire Me Thursday is a weekly challenge similar to Illustration Friday but the topics encourage trying new techniques and using different mediums. This week the challenge was to create a self-portrait using any kind of medium and having fun with it. It was a challenge indeed. Try looking at yourself in a mirror for a while and you’ll see why. Then try to capture what you see and feel onto paper. It was tough. My portrait has a little watercolors, acrylic, copper foil, stamping, pen and fabric (hair & heart). I put the crown in because my name is Regina which is Latin for Queen. I’ve never actually worn a crown or tiara in my life. Really! Well, here it is.
post note: I did this watercolor (below) of myself first, but thought I looked too serious and wasn’t going to post it. Plus, when I asked my 4 year old if it looked like me he said, “hmmmm, not really. Maybe it needs more style”. Style? Do I say that? He’s so funny. Anyway, I put it aside and did the top piece which I thought was more interesting. So all morning this painting of me has been glaring me in the face as if to say, “What? I’m not good enough for you?” So, here it is. What do you think?
I think it is interesting to compare. The top one is more ‘you”, while the bottom one might actually look like you more! But your whimsical, colorful style shines through on the top one. Love the bird, and tiara! Us moms need a tiara, we have earned them!
Your bag is great and isn’t it fun to create your own pattern! I recently made a bag that I wished I used interfacing. It definately helps to keep it’s shape! But I bet you will still enjoy using that one.
Regina! That’s an awesome name! Loved your self portrait, it’s so creative and whimsical, I specially loved the deepness you got in the eyes, way cool. I really liked both of them…the serious one is great too.
Ok, so here goes the Vegan Pancake recipe:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 tsp. sea salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cup soy milk (I use vanilla Silk Soy)
1 TBSP. maple syrup (the real kind)
1 TBS. apple cider vinegar
Mix all the wet ingredients first in a separate bowl and then the wet ones. Join wet with dry and beat lightly.
Cook as regular pancakes on a really really hot skillet.
Hope they come out yummie…I do them all the time for ma’ boys (age 8 and 9).
Have a great day!
I really like both!! You have a lovely soft style!
This is splendid! I love the mixed elements you used, and I love the way your head tilts towards the sun. This is a gem:> It’s funny – whenever i draw a self portrait, I don’t even look at myself. IT just comes out as me, or perhaps as I imagine myself to be. I am glad you have achknowledged your personal royalty!
These are wonderful…soft, feminine…beautiful! Thank you for sharing them.
a.
Love your self Portrait! Wonderful! I am guessing by your blog you are a veg? Me too! Cool! 😉
