Misconceptions of Arizona

tucson1.jpg

I grew up in AZ and have spent my whole life here with the exception of my 3 1/2 years in Dallas.   While living in Texas, I realized that there are a lot of misconceptions that people have about Arizona.   So, I have made a little list of just a few facts about my home state.

1.  Az is not soley comprised of desert.

2.  Az has more national parks and monuments than any other state.

3.  The highest point is Humphreys Peak (in Flagstaff,Az) at 12,633 feet.
4.  Not all of AZ suffers high summer temperatures.  Although it is sunny 85% of the time in southern Arizona, Arizona frequently has the hottest and coldest temperatures on the same day.

5. Most of Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) does not observe daylight savings (no changing the clocks for us!!)

6.  Arizona has AMAZING sunsets!

I took these pictures over the weekend.  It was about 97 degrees out, so we packed up the kids and took them up the mountain.  After only a 30 minute drive we were at 8000 feet in the cool 75 degree mountians!   I love it here!

Ah the SW! You know it makes me cringe when people move here from…i dunno, somewhere else and say “It’s so brown!” When really there is a beautiful bosque a few miles away, evergreen covered mountains on the other side of town and living desert surrounding us (of a different shade of green then I guess they are use to)
I cant imagin living anywhere else now.

LOL There definitely are a lot of misconceptions about AZ. When I was in London an Irish gentleman asked me if everyone in Arizona wore cowboy hats and rode horses. I replied, “I do not know, are there many leprechauns in Ireland?” LOL Arizona sunsets are beautiful!
