April = Home Sweet Home Month

Remember that fixer-upper of a house that I bought and moved into last summer? Remember how I was going to spruce it all up and make it super spiffy? Has anyone noticed that I haven’t posted about this great, old house since August of last year? Do you wanna know why? It’s because after all the tearing up, painting and partial remodeling, my hubby and I just couldn’t do it any more. We both started having pretty bad elbow pain in Oct. and decided we needed a break. Six months later we are still looking at this stuff…

Exposed CFLs, blue tape, exposed plumbing, unfinished tile work, yard work, unfinished cabinets with make-shift counter tops, holes with wires coming out, half painted china cabinet and plastered dry-wall. That’s not even all of it. There is lots more.

We can’t take all this half-unfinishedness it anymore!!! So, I am very happy to report that we have declared this month Home Repair month. Our goal is to have it ALL (or most) of this stuff done by July, our one year anniversary in this house. And since we have so much to do, we are getting a little bit of help, especially with some bigger projects. It will be so nice to not have to worry about exposed wires!!!

We’ve already prepped our front yard for a desert style (low maintenance) make0ver. It was originally covered with pea gravel and green rock (think fish tank green). I really don’t understand that one. We even fixed a few light fixtures and put up the exhaust hood for the oven. It’s already looking better.

So, I hope you don’t mind some home focused blogging over the next couple of months. Of course there will be a bit of sewing and crafting thrown in here and there.

I love, love, love home repairs and remodeling! I can’t wait to hear more about your home “work.” Maybe you’ll even be able to get a few tutorials to share about your adventures in repairs =).

Okay, maybe I’ll jump on the bandwagon and keep you company. I just kidded a hole in my bathroom door yesterday (accident, I swear!) and need to patch that, plus the hole my husband knocked in the closet door trying to move a sofa out of the house (don’t ask). Plus falling down curtain rods, peeling wallpaper, cabinets and walls that need to be painted… but lets not get ahead of ourselves. You are not alone. Good luck!

I particularly love the plastic bag posing as a faucet. But I’m sure you don’t. 🙂

I love watching home remodeling photos so I’ll be happy to see those. We just bought a home at the top end of our price range because all of that had already been done.
