We will be adding a new member to our family. A desert tortoise. He is currently with a friend of mine who will be moving to Tennessee 🙁 . She can’t take him with her, So we will become his guardians.
halfway done
It is illegal to “own” a desert tortoise, but you can be a guardian to one that has be kept captive for it’s whole life. So, guardians we will be. And darn good guardians, I might add. We’ve been reading up, and getting ready for his arrival. My husband even made him a first class luxury burrow. Pretty dang awesome, if I do say so myself.
It is made with bricks, ply-wood, curved border bricks, and lots of dirt. Kinda like this.
complete!
I’m thinking I might have to sprinkle rose petal at his door step to welcome him to his new home. Tortoises love rose petals. Hopefully not rose stems and leaves. Afterall, I am getting really fond of those roses.
regina, this is TOO cool! i bet the boys are super excited to guardians to this lucky creature. can’t wait to “meet” him!
This is great! My uncle just retired from AZ Game and Fish and always had desert tortoises around. They are the best! I love to hand-feed them lettuce. Congrats & Happy Mother’s Day to you too!
