I bought these ties a while back. A huge bag (50+) for $3. I just couldn’t resist the bright colors and funky patterns. I don’t know what I’m going to do with all of them, but a few ideas came to me in the middle of the night (don’t you love when that happens?). Anyway, I thought I’d better share them since I am officially (as of June 11) on a fabric diet. I cannot buy any more fabric (thrifted or new) until July 30th. So no more hitting the breaks when I see a garage sale, fabric store or thrift store. A good thing for the local drivers.
This idea is from Last Minute Fabric Gifts. I thought it was cute and easy. Chop off the bottom of a tie, turn it inside out, sew, flip right side out, and add a closing bit & straps. In it are all those dang cards they make you get at the grocery store to buy your food for normal prices. The girlie card was just thrown in cuz it’s cute. Other ideas for ties: straps for bags, eye-glass case, belt. Maybe I can think up more. Any other ideas out there? I’ve got a lot of ties here!
Okay, now about the fabric diet or “Use What You Have Challenge”. It’s being hosted by Trail Mix Designs and Sew Katie Sew. You can read more about it on both of their websites. There are prizes involved, so go check it out and join!
All too frequently I wake up in the middle of the night with what I think is a brilliant idea. How funny. I’m so glad you joined the challenge and I can’t believe you made that out of a neck tie! Of course, once I knew it was a tie I saw it right away. What a super idea. Now (after July 31st of course) I’m going to have to add neck ties to my “list”. 🙂
CUTE!! My friend made a bunch of awesome tie purses using two whole purses. I’ll take a pic and post it for you. I seriously need to be on a “use what you have” diet….but dang it I keep getting gift cards for my birthday:):):) (at least I’m shopping on someone else’s dime:))
So glad to see you joined in the challenge! That neck tie card case is a cute idea!
Cute little bag! I thought it might also make a neat envelope for gift cards! maybe even for father’s day, but the chance of it getting tossed with other wrappings are high.
I use ties for my handles of my repurposed felted sweater bags. Love this little bag. It would make a cute matching coin purse for my bags. that’s a bargain on the ties, btw.
I’m not officially on the diet, but I’m really trying to use what I have, fabric and yarn-wise.
I love the little tie bag! I just saw an idea in a new book I picked up “Simply Handmade, 365 easy gifts and decorations you can make” of taking the ends of ties and sewing them together to make a garland. Add a pearl (or other embellishment) to the points. I thought now who would have that many ties. =) It says you can also use the ties for a pattern and use other scraps of fabric to make your own “tie ends” for more! Have fun!
nice website, I will bookmark this for later!
