I always write a little something about my guys on their birthdays. A few weeks ago we celebrated Super-E’s 6th birthday and I didn’t have a chance to post about it. So this is a little reminder to myself (for when I’m old and forgetful) of all his greatness at age 6. (And the cool Chachi haircut he was sporting until two days ago)
1. He has picked up reading so quickly! No more spelling out secret messages to Daddy. I attribute his reading partly to our nightly book reading since birth. It’s our curl up together (with brother) and calm down for bed time. We are currently reading the Magic Tree House series. We are on book four. We read together and then he’ll continue on by himself.
2. He loves Legos. Obsessed actually. He has a pretty big collection now. We thought they were a great way to keep him busy for long periods of time, but now he can whip out a creature or structure in no time at all. He’s just discovered Rube Goldberg, so we may be seeing those legos being put to new use.
3. He is totally at that stage where he just loves me to pieces, wants to be with me all the time and tells me he loves me, “more than I could ever know” or ” forty-three hundred thousand, eighty three one billion”. I’ll take it all.
4. His favorite color is green, he still likes his brother and he sleeps with 5 stuffed animals who all need kisses from me before bedtime.
5. More and more I see his daddy in him and it makes me giggle and want to pull my hair out. It’s probably why they butt heads quite a bit.
6. He’s going into 1st grade next week! I’m so nervous for him and he’s cool as a cucumber.
What a sweet boy! I am so glad he had a nice birthday. And you are smart to write down these details. You’ll look back one day and be so glad you did.
No wonder you call him “Super”-E. What a great kid, especially #s 3 and 4. Becca starts Kindergarten on the 27th, and I thought *that* was early. Happy late birthday, and good luck on the first day of school (that goes for you, too, Mom).
revel in those times. my son turned 10 recently and i can’t wrap my mind around it. double digits! such a wonderful young man who now calls me mom. i told him that i would still love mommy at times. he said he would, but not in front of anyone.
He sounds like a sweet kid! 🙂
Little E is quite Super indeed! I can’t believe he is starting the first grade and I’m still in awe of how he read all his birthday cards out loud this year. He’s such a fantastic little boy and I love him so muchly! It’s wonderful how you document those special characteristics about him as he gets older. I love you sister and I think you are pretty fantastic, too:)
Wow! Sounds like my boy who just turned 7 and will start 2nd grade. It must be a boy thing, because mine loves the Magic Treehouse books and follows me around like my shadow. But that’ss fine with me.
Chachi haircuts are rad! We’re in the “you’re not my friend” phase over here. I hope when mine is six he likes me a little more. Sigh.
