Inspired by Hummingbirds

This is the time of year when these pretty little creatures start whizzing around from flower to flower in search of nectar.

I find them so incredibly magical. I was able to capture images of them at the Sonora Desert Museum on Mother’s day. I had seen a couple in our yard when I was trying to think of an animal to embroider for Michelle’s button swap, and decided they would be perfect.

I made an extra button for Michelle, and thought that she might need a place to keep all of her pretty embroidered buttons, so I made her this little button box.

They arrived to her in the mail already and she is happily keeping her buttons tucked away in this box. Thanks Michelle for hosting yet another great swap!

Oh, I almost forgot. I made three extra buttons with the intention of giving them away. I added a dab of blue colored glue stick to keep the fabric from moving when assembling them and the blue never went away, so I drew little blue flowers & clouds with an art marker to try to cover the spots. What do you think? Does anyone want one? Leave a comment and I’ll pick three different people on Friday.

HI, Humming birds are one of my favourite birds too. There is something fascinating about the way they fly and the sound they generate. Their colour and size make them extra special. I think you have captured all that in your very prtty buttons. I have been following your blog for a while and love the work you do. However, this is the first time I have left a comment. Best, Bhakti 🙂

Hi! This is my first time commenting, although I’ve been reading for several weeks now. My 5 year old daughter has a budding button collection inspired by a ‘field trip’ we took back in April where we saw the most beautiful and intricate button collection! Anyway, I do not want to ask for a button since I am a first time commenter, but I was wondering if you would give a brief explanation of how you made them. I would love to make a one (or a few!) for her sweet little collection! Thanks so much!

I meant to post this with my original comment, and just realized that I didn’t! Here is the button museum we visited. It really was inspirational!

I love love love my little button box! Thank you so much, and your buttons are fantastic, too. But yeah, totally weird, the little fabric square on top is still green, not pink flowers like in your picture. All the other colors are right on, so… what the heck? You have a phantom girly girl in your camera who likes the color pink? You should name her Rebecca. Thanks so much again! Mwwwwah! Oh, and, obviously, please don’t enter me into your button giveaway, because I already have one! Whoo hoo!

Your button box is too cute! And love the hummingbird buttons as well… Don’t know where you find the time chickie, but I’m sure glad you do!

  9. Great hummingbird photos. Thanks for sharing them with us. I have a tiny hummingbird nest in my collection – a gift from my father many many years ago.

Love your blog. Always an inspiration!
