So, i did it. I put pink, peek-a-boo highlights in my hair. Just enough to be fun, but not too crazy. Pretty big deal for me, because I don’t dye my hair. I did a few different shades of brown in my very early 20’s.
It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do. Not a regression thing, I don’t think. Just a ‘feeling good in my own skin’ thing.
I had to bleach my hair first, which is just yucky!! Then I used Special Effects Burgundy, which is supposed to be more of a darker purplish-pink. A lot of it has rinsed out already…maybe I need another application? Of course, I did it all by myself, because I’m a self proclaimed DIYer. It worked out, but next time I’m letting my friends help me. It’s just too messy.
I want to keep it, at least until Artfest.

I say why the hell not? I mean it’s a good thing to have a small bit of your outside match what’s inside. It’s only hair! It’s the same reason I got my tattoo-not to be trendy, but because I’d been through (and will always go through) alot with my health and I wanted to reclaim my body in some way. My tattoo makes me happy every time I look at it. Your body is the vehicle your soul gets around in. No reason why it can’t be FUNky!

I used to help a friend with little peekaboo highlights like yours (hers were purple). It took awhile for us to find a dye that would take and wouldn’t fade after one washing, and it was definitely high-maintenance, but it was worth it. I’ve thought about doing a few for myself. 🙂

LOVE it! I dye a tiny patch of my hair in the front (but underneath) bright purple. I have a relatively conservative job, so it works perfectly. With my work ‘do, you cant see it at all. But if I put my hair back – ta daa! I love it. I do it myself too, but actually started because that stripe of my hair turned white, so I don’t have to bleach first!
