Marissa
11×14 acrylic on cradled wood panel
This is a custom painting I did recently, for a very lovely woman.
I have to say, commissioned portraits are the hardest for me to do. They always turn out great and the owners love them, but the stress is BIG.
This is mostly because, I want so badly to please the people who have chosen me to re-create them in my style. You have to look at the photos they give you and the ideas they want and somehow process them into a representation that is in keeping with your own style, but also keeps the essence of the person intact. This sometimes takes a little back and forth.
Thankfully, I only do portrait commissions in the summer months (and sometimes during the spring) when there are no art show commitments. This keeps me from tiring of them or from having too much stress. I’ll be all set for my next batch of commissioned painting next summer.
Marissa loves her new painting, as does her family. She called me to thank me. I am really happy with how it turned out too!
This is gorgeous! Love the large flowers and also the amazingly friendly expression on her face! Pretty!
