My husband has always been really into bike riding and it has been his big goal in life to get his whole family into riding as well. Lately, we have been trying to ride more in general and as a family. I’ve had a Gary Fisher mountain bike for the last 12 years, but I’m not a mountain biker (as hard as my husband may have tried). So the fit was always a little uncomfortable. So, we decided that some good old fashion cruiser bikes would be needed. I couldn’t get one without him wanting one too, so two were bought via craig’s list and ebay.
His is a 1968 Austrian made Sears, mens 3-speed and mine is a 1972 Schwinn Breeze, 3-speed womens cruiser. They are so much fun and so much more comfortable for me with a more upright riding position.
Don’t you just love all the character these two bikes have? Fortunately, the hubby is also an aspiring bike mechanic, so getting them in tip-top shape has been no problem. Now all I need is a basket to carry my things, and maybe I’ll start riding to work. Or maybe not. I’m still working on that, especially because I get off at 8pm, the darkness freaks me out a bit.
Yeah you!! AND a Schwinn! Those are hard (expensive) to come by. I picked up my vintage blue ride on craigslist too ($30).
You guys will have a blast riding around town in them. I’ve been looking for a little vintage basket to add to mine but haven’t found one yet.
Hugs,
a.
My dad bought a Breeze exactly like yours for me for Christmas in about 1972. I wish I still had it—I bought an Electra cruiser last week, and while I’m in love with it, it would have been so cool to have kept my old ride.
I’ve really been into riding my bike this summer as well. When I was a little girl my mother had a blue Schwinn just like that!
Cute bikes, I love the green one.
ohh, those are such great bikes. i have been cycling a lot more here in norway than i did in n.z. and i really enjoy it! i’m looking forward to the day that my kids can ride on the road on their own bikes, too. 🙂
I challenge ya guys to a race!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. I will even give you a 30 minute head start– you will need it! Maybe I’ll even the odds and get some bike out of a dumpster. Same one you got those? Ha ha ha ha ha– just playing!
I have that Schwinn! I love it so 🙂
I love your new bikes! 🙂 We haven’t done any bike riding since our move, because I am too scared of the hills and the traffic here… (Oh and it isn’t up the hills that I am scared of so much as going down and not being able to brake!) Your post makes me want to get my bike out though…
I just bought my wife a 1972 Schwinn Breeze and she absolutely loves it. Now I’m intent on getting a vintage bike for myself as well. I hope it will inspire you to ride often. You’ve got to take up riding to work. You’ll be the happiest girl in the shop. You get back out there, too, Chara Michele. Don’t let those in cages rob you of your freedom. Cheers!
