good morning orange smoothie

I wanted to share the kids’ new favorite smoothie that we whipped up this morning for breakfast with a whole wheat tortilla, banana, nut butter roll on the side.

I’ve seen a few different orange “julius” or “creamsicle” versions around, but many of them use orange concentrate in them, of which I am not a big fan.  It’s highly processed and full of sugar.

This one has whole, fresh ingredients and the kids LOVE it!

Here’s what you need:

2 large oranges peeled  and separated into wedges(leave as much pith on the orange as possible because the pith has lots of wonderful nutrients)
1 large spoonful of raw almond butter
1 large frozen banana cut in small pieces (we keep a zip-loc bag with frozen banana pieces in the freezer at all times)
1 cup milk of choice (we use almond milk)
agave nectar to taste (or other sweetener of choice) It doesn’t need much, the bananas and oranges provide a good amount of sweetness.
1 handful of ice

Throw everything into a blender until well blended and creamy. Makes 2-3 servings

Enjoy!!

sounds delish! i have been craving these flavors as well. i had an orange julius drink made with orange & pineapple juices & coconut. i will give this a whirl though, esp. with almond milk. that’s where its at!

This sounds yummy! definitely going to try this tomorrow. Do you know any good recipes like this that use kiwi and/or grapefruit but make them less sharp? I only ask ‘cos your recipes always appeal.x Thank you.x

    • Kiwi, banana and dates with milk (of choice) is really good if the kiwi is really soft. they are much sweeter that way. Grapefruit: I’ve tried a few different ways and I just can’t stomach it. It’s probably the only fruit I don’t like 🙁
