charcoal drawings

I’ve been drawing in my sketchbook while watching Downton Abby.

I like to draw faces to relax- no pressure or worries.  Just lots of good old fashion practice-makes-perfect. Sometimes I use images for references and sometimes I don’t–just depends.

I like to start with a rough sketch, then I rub the charcoal around with a tissue to make everything gray. Next, I use my kneaded eraser to lift some of the grey where the highlights should be and finally, more black and white charcoal to enhance and define.

That’s how I do it every time.

Sketch, rub, lift, define.

Maybe, I should start sketching all the characters of Downton Abby. That would be fun.  Unfortunately, I don’t think I have the attention span for that.

That´s an excellent idea, to be sketching while watching TV. Might be good to practice those really quick sketches 🙂 And Downton Abbey… aaahhh! 🙂
